Florian Pertzborn is Co Principal Double Bass Soloist - A with the Concerthouse Orchestra Porto OSPdCM at Casa da Musica and professor of double bass at the Superior School of Music and Performing Arts ESMAE/IPP in Porto, Portugal. He graduated under Michinori Bunya at the University of Arts in Würzburg, received his Post-graduation under Ichiro Noda from the Frankfurt Opera House, his Master of Music Degree under Jane Davidson and Michael Wolf at the University of Sheffield and obtained a PhD in Performance Science under Daniela Coimbra and Susan Hallam from the Universities of Porto and London. He completed his instrumental formation in Masterclasses with Michael Wolf, Franco Petracchi, Ludwig Streicher and Gerhard Dwiza. He was apointed as the first double bass professor at superior level in Portugal, co-organized the first national doublebass convention and the first international double bass competition. As a visiting professor he teached and performed at the University of Music HFM Leipzig , the Academy of Music in Oslo, the Pennstate University USA, the Conservatoire Superior of Music in Paris, the Universities of Berlin, Bloomington, Houston, Iowa, Indianapolis and Michigan and lately the Conservatoire Superior of Music in Salamanca. During his PhD studies he became an Associate Researcher in performance sciences at the Centre for Science and Technology in Arts CITAR of the Catholic University of Porto and a member of the State Foundation of Science and Technology FCT. He is currently member of the i2ADS Research Institute in Arts, Design and Society. His academic work projects have been appreciated by the ISPS - Royal College of Music - London, The London University, Schott International, The Doublebassist - Orpheus - London, PerMusi - São Paulo and the IPP Forum in Porto. Florian is the author of „The Hummel Bass Ensemble Project 2008-2011” which he initiated with his double bass class and now networks with some of the finest double bass performers worldwide. Under the Brain Shield of the Hummel Foundation and Schott International he founded and performed with the Berlin Bass 2010 Festival Ensemble, the ISB 2009 Pennstate Doublebass Ensemble, The Paris Bass 2008 Festival Ensemble and the ESMAE Basse em Masse Ensemble.
